On Tuesday, January 7, the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation received an Award from the Extended Day program of the School District of Indian River County. The award was presented by Supervisor Barbara Musselwhite and given to Tom and Sallie Fish, and Foundation Board members Rosanne Susi and Joe Pappalardo and Foundation staff. The award was to thank the Foundation for supporting the Extended Day program at Vero Beach Elementary. A dozen children participating in the program were in attendance to present the Foundation members with home-made cards and a 'thank you' banner to honor the Foundation for their support. The Mardy Fish Children's Foundation currently provides the Extended Day Program with scholarships for several low-income children whose families are not able to pay for their children to participate in this after-school enrichment program. The Extended Day program provides a safe place for children to stay after-school up until 6 p.m., where they are given a snack, an opportunity to do homework and to participate in enrichment and fitness programs. At many of the elementary schools, the Foundation provides scholarships to their Kids on Court tennis programs and Kids in Motion fitness programs. "The Extended Day program is in line with our Foundation's mission to offer health, fitness and nutrition programs in a safe after-school environment, so that children will develop healthy habits," says Tom Fish, Vice President of the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation.
The Mardy Fish Children's Foundation works with the School District's Extended Day to provide health and fitness programming to promote Mardy's "Six Healthy Habits" which are:
Get Sleep
Drink Water
Eat Healthy
Exercise Daily
Brush & Floss
Make Friends
